Andy Tindel is a native of Tyler, Texas. Andy graduated from Baylor University with a B.B.A. in Accounting and completed his legal education at Baylor University School of Law in 1982. After graduation from law school, Andy served as a law clerk to the Honorable William M. Steger, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas, for a period of three years. After leaving the court in 1985, Andy has been engaged in the private practice of law, first as an associate in a law firm primarily engaged in the defense of civil litigation matters and later as an associate and partner in law firms handling cases primarily from the plaintiff's side of the docket. In 1992 Andy established a solo law practice based in Tyler emphasizing commercial litigation, personal injury trials and associated appellate matters in state and federal courts. In 2002, Andy joined the Provost * Umphrey, Law Firm, L.L.P. in order to open and manage the Tyler, Texas office of the firm. Andy is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in the fields of Civil Trial Law, Civil Appellate Law and Personal Injury Trial Law. He is also certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Andy is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas, the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Western and Northern Districts of Texas and the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Andy is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Smith County Bar Association, Fifth Circuit Bar Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, East Texas Trial Lawyers Association, College of the State Bar of Texas, Bar Association of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, American Board of Trial Advocates and the T. John Ward Chapter of the American Inns of Court. In 2005, Andy had the honor of serving as the Chairman of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas. The Litigation Section is the largest section of the State Bar of Texas and is made up of trial lawyers practicing in all areas of litigation in Texas courts. Andy has also served as President of the Bar Association of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in 2001-2002 and as President of the East Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2002-2003. Andy was also elected to serve as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Council of the Litigation Section of the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas. Andy has served on the Local Rules Committe for the Eastern District of Texas as well as numerous other court appointed committees and task forces dealing with federal practice and the administration of justice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Andy is married to Sandy, his wife of 29 years, who is also a graduate of Baylor University and a registered nurse. They are members of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler where Sandy is active in the church choir and music programs and Andy is a Sunday School teacher and involved in the youth ministry. In his spare time, Andy enjoys running, weight lifting and oil painting.
